We don’t collect
your data. Period.
TempMail was built to protect your privacy — not to harvest it. This page explains exactly what we do (and don’t do) with your information.
Every time you sign up for a website, app, or online service using your real email, you risk receiving spam, getting your email sold to data brokers, or being targeted with unwanted marketing for years. TempMail solves this by giving you a throwaway address that receives emails just like a real inbox — and disappears after 24 hours.
TempMail is available as a website at tempmail.chat and as a browser extension for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera, Brave, and Vivaldi. Both work identically and share the same privacy approach: we collect as little as possible and keep it for as short a time as possible.
We collect the absolute minimum needed to operate the service. Here is the complete list — nothing is hidden:
-
🔑Anonymous session token — When you first visit or open the extension, our server generates a random unique token (e.g.
a7f3b2c9...). This token is stored in your browser’s local storage and is used solely to link you to your temporary mailbox. It contains no personal information and cannot be used to identify you. -
📧Emails sent to your temp address — When a third party sends an email to your temporary address, that email (sender, subject, body) is stored temporarily on our servers. You did not provide this data — a third party sent it. It is deleted automatically after 24 hours.
-
🌐Standard server logs — Like all web servers, ours logs basic request data (IP address, timestamp, endpoint called) for security and abuse prevention. These logs are retained for a maximum of 7 days and are never linked to your mailbox identity.
The Chrome Web Store requires us to disclose our stance on each of the following data categories. Here is our answer for every single one:
user8472@tempmail.chat) and a matching anonymous token. No login required. No personal data exchanged.clipboardWrite permission only at the moment you click Copy — nothing else.| Permission | What it allows | Why we need it |
|---|---|---|
| storage | Read and write to browser’s local storage | Saves your anonymous mailbox token so your inbox is remembered when you close and reopen the popup. No personal data is stored. |
| notifications | Show desktop notifications | Alerts you when a new email arrives in your inbox while the popup is closed. Notifications show only the sender and subject of the incoming temp email. |
| clipboardWrite | Write text to the clipboard | Used only when you click the Copy button to copy your temp email address. We never read from your clipboard — write only, on demand. |
| alarms | Schedule periodic background tasks | Checks the TempMail server every 30 seconds for new emails so the inbox badge stays updated even when the popup is closed. No user data is involved. |
| host: apps.trendinginsights.site | Make network requests to our API server | The extension communicates exclusively with this endpoint to create mailboxes, fetch emails, and delete mailboxes. No other hosts are contacted. No browsing data is transmitted. |
-
✓No data brokers. We never sell your anonymous session token or server logs to any third party, data broker, or marketing company.
-
✓No advertising networks. We display no advertisements and are not connected to any ad network. Your data is never used for ad targeting.
-
✓No analytics services. We do not use Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Hotjar, or any similar tool. No third-party script has access to your usage data.
-
✓No cloud email providers. Emails received by your temp address are processed and stored on our own server. They are not forwarded to or processed by Gmail, SendGrid, Mailgun, or any similar service.
-
✓Legal requirements only. The only scenario in which we would share data is if required by a valid court order or law enforcement subpoena. In that case we would only be able to provide anonymous server logs — we have no personal data to share.
As required by the Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies, we certify the following:

An anonymized string (hash) of your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to check if you have a profile picture. You can review Gravatar’s privacy policy at automattic.com/privacy. If your comment is approved, your profile picture (if any) will be visible publicly next to your comment.
